COLORS THROUGH MY HOPEFUL EYES SERIES
The Works on Paper Series was born out of the COVID pandemic. Amidst the pandemic, where everything seemed unbalanced and unsafe to us, I was feeling stuck and full of uncertainties, as many people did. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I wasn't able to use my studio space anymore. I stepped back from my paintings and my career. I felt at a loss. I was in no mood to paint with the circumstances going on in our world and I just stopped. I couldn't see my grandchildren, couldn't visit my family in Brazil. It was depressing and I had no motivation to work. I felt like I was waiting for my "old life" to get back to "normal" again for me to restart from where I stopped.
Suddenly I started to feel an immense will, a necessity to create something new, fresh...
I started to work with paper as my background and watercolors as my primary medium, followed by many other mediums which I am already familiar with. Surprisingly, I loved working with watercolors so much. I loved the ebb and flow of the watercolor. It has a fluidity that makes the washes keep going freely, an incredible beauty in its colors and it can stop anywhere, wherever it is. Soon I saw myself completely involved and absorbed in this new step and new challenge and I am just letting myself go with it. I also use ink, charcoal, graffiti, acrylic, pastel, collage, marker, pencil, oil pastel and oil stick simultaneously in this process. My creative energies returned! It was the start of something new.
